Unfortunately, heirloom tomatoes also come with some pretty big drawbacks. They can be difficult to be successful with because of their lack of disease resistance, and overall low production volumes.
Fortunately, that doesn't have to be the case any longer. The newly introduced "Mighty 'Mato" tomato plant combines the great flavors you remember from heirloom varieties with the vigor and disease resistance of a super hybrid tomato plant. Mighty 'Mato is able to offer the best of both worlds because it is actually two plants, combined into one super plant.
Mighty 'Matos are two plants combined into one through the process of grafting. The top part of one plant (in this case a great tasting variety) is combined with the rootstock of a vigorous and disease resistant variety. The Mighty 'Mato line up currently consists of 12 heirloom varieties and four hybrids.
Countryside Greenhouse is excited to introduce these new plants for the 2012 season in addition to all of our regular tomato offerings.
